A lot of people have the following error when they are playing minecraft: Out of memory!
Minecraft has run out of memory.
The solution below is focused on the game client not the server.
To allocate enough memory to minecraft we are going to make a batch file, don’t worry its easy:
Right click on your desktop en click New > Text document
Name the document anything you like, I’ll name it: minecraft
Open the document For Windows Vista 64 bit or Windows 7 64 bit type in the following: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -jar "C:\Users\username\desktop\minecraft.exe"
For a 32 bit Windows Vista or Windows 7 type in the following: "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -jar "C:\Users\username\desktop\minecraft.exe"
For Windows XP type in the following: "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -jar "C:\Documents and Settings\username\desktop\minecraft.exe"
Put this line in your text document replace username with your own username
For username fill in your current username, to find out what your username is press the start button and your username will appear in the top right corner of your start menu for windows Vista and windows 7 users and on the top left corner for windows XP users
To find out if you are running a 64 bit windows or a 32 bit windows, click start, right click Computer or My computer and choose properties, behind system type it will say either 64 bit or 32 bit
You can experiment with the memory values in the batch file if you have more ram in your machine try 2048 for the first value and 1024 for the second for example. In notepad go to File> Save as… In the Save as type dropdown menu select All Files
Now save the file as minecraft.bat
Start minecraft using your newly created bat file from now on.
The batch file is the file with the gears in the icon, you can delete the minecraft.txt when you are done
Double click the bat file (the one with the gears) to start minecraft
Good luck!
